Portelet

Portelet is a small bay on the north coast of Jersey. It is a popular spot for swimming, sunbathing, and walking. The beach is sheltered from northerly winds by a rocky headland. Portelet is pronounced “Port-uh-lay” by the locals and has a long history. It was once a popular spot for smugglers, who would use the bay to offload their goods. The bay is also home to a number of shipwrecks, including the Mary Celeste, which was found abandoned in 1872. The beach is a small sandy cove, with a gently sloping shore. The sand is fine and golden, and the water is clear and blue. The bay is also home to a number of small islets, which are popular for birdwatching.
